On the last day of 2022, we were contacted by our friend Pasha, who was born in Kherson and has been working and doing business in the Czech Republic for more than 10 years. However, at the beginning of the conflict he decided to return to Ukraine and start helping. Immediately after the liberation of Kherson, he returned there as a native and immediately got involved in organizing the importation and distribution of aid in the severely tested city. However, we learned from a phone call that he would be unavailable for a while due to his work at the Regional Children's Clinic in Kherson. This health facility had more than 1,400 beds before the conflict and provided health care for children throughout the Kherson region. It not only treated children in its own facilities, but also sent mobile medical teams throughout the region. Unfortunately, the hospital was ransacked by the occupation forces, who took away all valuables.
Pasha simply asked us: "Guys, I will drive a van here until we can get an ambulance or another vehicle. Can you help us in any way? Do you have any contacts? And we also need equipment for the hospital."
Our response was clear: "Of course, we'll help."
Our entire team immediately set about finding ambulances, medical supplies and equipment. During January, we were able to find three ambulances that were scrapped but still functional, and to get medical supplies from our donors. We also provided three bulletproof vests for each ambulance and helmets for their crews, who at times helped evacuate people or the wounded from areas under fire.
The first two vehicles were brought by the girls from Team 4 Ukraine Cherson, as no one from our team was able to go on holiday at the end of January (we had already carried out two events in December and due to our normal jobs, it was not possible to take further time off). However, the third vehicle was ready on the convoy and was sent to Kherson in the second half of February.
Thanks to your support we were able to secure ambulances (Renault, VW and Mercedes) for the Kherson hospital. Each of the vehicles has a unique mascot designed by our supporters. We also supplied the hospital with 5 pediatric incubators, 5 pulmonary ventilators and an anesthesia unit. We have also provided dozens of instant heaters, 2 power generators and an Ecoflow charging station that keeps several medical devices running during power outages. In addition, we brought children's clothing, bedding and other needed equipment.
This entire project would not have been possible without your support. In addition to the actual machines and in-kind donations from you, we also needed funds. This whole operation cost us 900 000 CZK. Thank you for your invaluable help.
